Every great tournament has a venue that becomes part of its identity. For the CIE Diggin’ at the Dome Championship 2027, we wanted the event logo to celebrate more than just volleyball—we wanted it to showcase one of the tournament’s most recognizable features: the impressive indoor dome at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex.
Rather than creating another generic volleyball logo, this design tells the story of the tournament itself. By combining bold athletic typography, the iconic sports dome, volleyball imagery, energetic paint splashes, and vibrant modern colors, the logo instantly communicates where the event takes place while emphasizing the excitement of championship competition.
Illustrated entirely as scalable vector artwork in Adobe Illustrator, the design was created specifically for tournament apparel, banners, event signage, social media, promotional materials, and championship merchandise.
Celebrating an Iconic Venue
The inspiration for this logo began with the tournament location.
The Louisville Slugger Sports Complex is widely recognized for its massive indoor dome, making it the perfect visual centerpiece for the event identity.
Instead of simply mentioning the venue in text, we transformed the dome into one of the primary design elements.
Its clean architectural silhouette immediately makes the logo recognizable to returning teams while helping first-time participants associate the tournament with its impressive facility.
By placing the dome directly beneath the event title, the venue becomes part of the story rather than simply serving as the tournament location.
Diggin’ at the Dome
The tournament name naturally creates a fun visual concept.
In volleyball, “digging” represents one of the most exciting defensive plays—a player making an incredible save to keep the ball alive.
Rather than illustrating a player diving across the court, we focused on the tournament’s atmosphere and location, allowing the typography and surrounding graphics to communicate the energy.
The bold title immediately captures attention while reinforcing the competitive spirit of championship volleyball.
Bold Athletic Typography
Typography plays one of the most important roles in sports branding.
For this project we combined several complementary lettering styles to create strong visual hierarchy.
DIGGIN’
The word DIGGIN’ dominates the upper portion of the composition using oversized athletic lettering inspired by collegiate sports branding.
Its bold proportions communicate:
- strength
- competition
- confidence
- athletic performance
The clean outlines ensure excellent readability from across a gymnasium or on tournament apparel.
AT THE DOME
Positioned beneath the main title, this secondary line balances the composition while clearly identifying the tournament theme.
The condensed athletic lettering creates structure without competing with the main title.
Together the typography creates a clean and powerful championship identity.
Championship
The lower portion of the design introduces a large flowing script for the word Championship.
Its sweeping curves soften the bold block lettering above while adding elegance and prestige.
This combination of athletic fonts and script lettering has become a signature approach for many of our tournament branding projects because it creates excellent visual balance.
The Dome as the Focal Point
One of the most unique aspects of this logo is the illustration of the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex dome.
Rather than creating a detailed architectural rendering, we simplified the structure into clean vector shapes that remain instantly recognizable.
