Every successful sporting event deserves a logo that captures its excitement before the first whistle ever blows. For the Post Presidents’ Day Classic 2027, our objective was to create a bold, patriotic, and highly recognizable identity that reflects the prestige of one of Central Illinois Elite’s premier volleyball tournaments held at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex. The event continues CIE’s tradition of hosting competitive volleyball tournaments that bring together top clubs from across the region. (Slugger Peoria)
This custom vector logo was designed to stand out on tournament apparel, banners, social media, championship awards, promotional materials, and event merchandise. Combining strong Americana-inspired graphics with athletic typography, the design creates a timeless look that players, coaches, and families will instantly recognize.
Creating a Bold Patriotic Identity
Presidents’ Day naturally evokes themes of American pride, tradition, and unity. Rather than relying on simple flag graphics alone, we built an energetic composition that layers multiple patriotic elements into a clean, balanced tournament logo.
The result is a design that feels bold without becoming cluttered, making it ideal for both large-format printing and apparel decoration.
The Stars Become the Foundation
One of the first elements viewers notice is the arrangement of oversized stars positioned behind the event title.
These stars accomplish several goals simultaneously:
- immediately establish the patriotic theme
- create a powerful silhouette
- frame the typography
- provide visual balance
- add depth to the composition
Instead of appearing flat, the layered stars help build dimension throughout the logo while directing the eye toward the tournament name.
American Flag Inspiration
To reinforce the Presidents’ Day theme, sections of the stars feature classic American flag styling with bold red stripes, crisp white highlights, and deep navy blue fields accented with white stars.

Clean Integration of the CIE Brand
At the center of the design sits the recognizable CIE logo.
Rather than simply placing the organization mark above the artwork, we carefully integrated it into the overall composition so it becomes a natural focal point.
The Illinois silhouette inside the lettering reinforces the organization’s identity while helping connect the tournament to its Central Illinois roots.
Positioning the event year directly above the logo ensures the branding remains current while making annual updates simple for future tournament editions.

Typography plays one of the most important roles in sports branding.
For this project we combined several complementary lettering styles to create visual hierarchy and movement.
“Post”
A flowing script font introduces the title with elegance and motion.
Its sweeping strokes soften the rigid geometry of the stars while giving the design personality.
“Presidents’ Day”
The main event title uses bold athletic block lettering inspired by collegiate sports branding.
The condensed vertical proportions allow the title to dominate the composition while remaining extremely readable from a distance.
This style communicates:

- confidence
- athletic performance

“Classic”
The final word returns to a flowing script style that balances the heavier block lettering above it.
The red script with white highlights creates a striking visual finish while adding movement across the bottom portion of the logo.
Its large sweeping curves help connect the entire composition together.
