Every great volleyball tournament deserves a logo that captures the excitement of competition before the first serve. For the CIE Winterfest 2027, our goal was to create a bold, energetic, and modern event identity that combines the intensity of competitive volleyball with the beauty of the winter season. Hosted by Central Illinois Elite (CIE) at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex, Winterfest continues to bring together talented volleyball clubs for a weekend of high-level competition and unforgettable memories.
This custom vector logo was designed specifically for tournament apparel, championship merchandise, event signage, promotional graphics, social media, and digital marketing. The finished artwork combines athletic motion, winter-themed elements, and bold typography into a unique design that instantly communicates both the sport and the season.
Capturing the Energy of Volleyball
Rather than designing a simple winter logo decorated with snowflakes, we wanted the artwork itself to feel alive with movement.
The centerpiece of the composition features a female volleyball athlete exploding upward toward the ball, frozen at the peak of an aggressive attack. Her extended reach immediately communicates athleticism, determination, and competitive intensity.
The dynamic pose creates visual excitement while reinforcing the fast-paced nature of tournament volleyball.
This dramatic illustration also gives the logo a premium, professional sports-brand appearance that works exceptionally well on apparel.
Winter Becomes Part of the Story
Since Winterfest is played during one of the coldest months of the year, winter itself became one of the design elements rather than simply a background decoration.
Large stylized snowflakes radiate behind the player, creating both depth and balance throughout the composition.
Additional snowflakes scattered throughout the artwork help reinforce the seasonal theme while maintaining a clean, uncluttered appearance.
The oversized geometric snowflake in the background serves multiple purposes:

Bold Athletic Typography
Sports logos succeed when they can be recognized instantly from across a gymnasium.
For that reason, the typography was designed with readability as the highest priority.
WINTERFEST
The tournament name uses oversized athletic block lettering inspired by collegiate sports branding.
The custom lettering features:

Integrating the CIE Brand
One of the most important goals of the project was incorporating the recognizable Central Illinois Elite (CIE) identity naturally into the composition.
The familiar CIE lettering appears prominently near the top of the artwork, anchored by the Illinois silhouette positioned inside the logo.
This placement immediately establishes the tournament organizer while allowing the Winterfest branding to become the dominant visual element.
The event year, 2027, is positioned near the lower portion of the design, making annual updates simple while preserving long-term brand recognition.
A Cool Winter Color Palette
Color selection plays an enormous role in sports branding.
For Winterfest we intentionally avoided using excessive colors and instead focused on a limited palette that prints beautifully on apparel.
Ice Blue
The light blue symbolizes:
- winter
- snow
- cold temperatures
- freshness
- energy
It also provides excellent contrast against white garments.
Deep Navy Blue
The darker blue creates:
- strength
- professionalism
- athletic character
- visual depth
Its rich tone allows the typography and athlete illustration to remain bold and highly readable.
White Highlights
White provides breathing room throughout the composition while emphasizing snowfall, icy lighting, and clean separation between graphic elements.
