Some event logos simply identify a tournament. Others immediately create an atmosphere before athletes even step inside the venue. That was the vision behind our custom CIE Viva La Volley 2027 event logo. Inspired by the vibrant colors, music, celebration, and traditions of a Mexican fiesta, this design combines energetic volleyball action with festive cultural elements to create one of the most colorful and memorable tournament identities we’ve produced for Central Illinois Elite (CIE).
Hosted at the Louisville Slugger Sports Complex, Viva La Volley celebrates competitive volleyball with an exciting festival atmosphere. Our goal was to design a logo that players would proudly wear long after championship weekend while giving the tournament a distinctive visual identity unlike any other event on the calendar.
Entirely illustrated as professional vector artwork in Adobe Illustrator, this logo was created for apparel, event merchandise, banners, digital marketing, sponsor materials, social media, and promotional products.
Bringing the Spirit of a Fiesta to Volleyball
Rather than simply placing a volleyball beside a sombrero, we wanted every element of the artwork to contribute to the overall story.
The logo celebrates the excitement, color, and energy associated with traditional Mexican festivals while maintaining a clean, professional sports aesthetic.
Each illustration works together to create a lively composition that immediately communicates fun, competition, and celebration.

The towering cactus serves as the foundation of the entire composition.
More than just a desert plant, it instantly establishes the Southwestern-inspired theme while providing a strong vertical structure for the artwork.

Integrating the CIE logo directly into the cactus helps merge the organization’s branding naturally into the overall design instead of making it feel like a separate graphic element.
The Illinois silhouette within the CIE logo preserves the organization’s identity while connecting the tournament back to its Central Illinois roots.
A Colorful Sombrero Creates Instant Recognition
Sitting proudly atop the cactus is an oversized festive sombrero.
The sombrero immediately establishes the celebration theme while becoming one of the most recognizable features of the logo.
Decorated with bold geometric patterns and accented with the tournament year, the hat creates strong visual hierarchy and draws the viewer’s attention toward the center of the artwork.
Its oversized proportions help balance the composition while reinforcing the lively personality of the event.

Instead of using standard volleyball illustrations, two brightly colored volleyballs were custom designed using the same vibrant color palette found throughout the artwork.
Positioned on both sides of the composition, they create symmetry while framing the central logo.

One of the most enjoyable parts of designing this logo was incorporating authentic decorative details that add personality without overwhelming the composition.
